  • Description
The V2 rocket (Aggregat 4) was the first fully functional large rocket. It became known under the propaganda name Vergeltungswaffe 2, or "V2" for short, given to it by Joseph Goebbels in October 1944. The Aggregat 4 was designed by the Nazi regime as a long-range ballistic artillery rocket and was used in large numbers towards the end of the Second World War. The A4 was a liquid-fuel rocket and was powered by alcohol and oxygen. It reached its maximum speed of about 5500 km/h (about Mach 5) after a burn time of about 60 seconds. Because of this, and because the entire flight lasted only 5 minutes at a range of 250-300 km, there was no defence against the weapon. The 1000 kg of explosives of an Amatol mixture were housed in the rocket's nose cone. The set includes the launch table on which the V2 was launched vertically.
